The door lock hacking that Norma showed was very simple. First, when opening the door it captures signals from the Wall Pad with a SDR(Software Defined Radio). Then they copy and amplify the signal. Finally, transmit the amplified signal back to the door lock to open the door. It was only about 10 seconds.
This method of hacking can open a door lock regardless of the complexity of the password and whether it has been changed or not.
“As a wireless network security company, many wireless communication devices that are used in daily life are also vulnerable to attacks on basic signal retransmissions and have demonstrated this time to raise awareness among users,” said CEO Jung Hyun-chul of Norma.
In order to prevent such hacking methods, it is most important to choose products that have increased security. Door locks are also used to select products that have additional security features such as faces, fingerprints, and iris. If it is difficult to replace door locks, it is safe to double-secure them through physical equipment such as front door safety rings.
